Dr Catherine Jenkins is Public Health Professional Development Lecturer & Research Fellow at London South Bank University (LSBU). She has excellent ideas for maintaining the journal's high standards and for developing it in line with IHPE strategic priorities. Cath brings a considerable amount of relevant publishing experience, public health expertise and international networks. She is due to take over in the coming months as Professor Michelle Baybutt (current Editor) steps into a Consulting Editor role. Further information can be found here and here. |

| | IHPE’s International Journal of Health Promotion and Education (IJHPE) is seeking scholars and professionals with expertise in any field of health promotion to serve as volunteer peer reviewers. We receive a large number of manuscripts from around the world, which cover many and varied health/promotion topics. | | Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM)IHPE Trustee, Hilary Burrage, recently gave a presentation on FGM and CEFM at a conference on Nursing Innovation & Reproductive Health (Rome). She explored whether community nurses could help reduce FGM and CEFM by developing awareness of these dangers and spotting risk earlier. Further information on her website. |

| | Recent analysis by The Health Foundation, based on data from the Office for National Statistics, shows that healthy life expectancy in the UK has fallen by around two years over the decade 2012–14 to 2022–24. Deep inequalities in healthy life expectancy between affluent and deprived areas have also widened. |

| | Funding opportunity – the Public Health Grassroots Awards invite applications for grants of up to £5000 for non-NHS public health employees in England. The funding can be used for training, or other activity to help build research skills and knowledge. Closing date – 9 th June 2026. |

| | The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has launched Towards a Safer Scotland, a manifesto for the 2026 Scottish Parliamentary Election, which sets out key priorities for accident prevention across Scotland. |

| | Friends Against Scams is a National Trading Standards initiative which aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by providing training, awareness raising, an App and a helpline. |

| | UK Government is consulting on plans to update the School Food Standards for the first time in over a decade, with a focus on making meals healthier, more balanced and more consistent across all schools. The consultation closes on 12 June 2026. IHPE recommends that schools and all settings provide food that is good for people and good for the planet, and that food is valued and enjoyed. |

| | The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has a range of resources for health care workers to improve understanding of health inequalities and optimise interactions with specific groups of people. This includes a series of podcasts by experts covering a wide range of health inequality issues. |

| | Unicef’s report The State of the World's Children 2025 focusses on Ending Child Poverty; Our Shared Imperative. The report explores the impacts of poverty in daily lives – in areas like housing, nutrition, clean water, sanitation (the most widespread severe deprivation), education, and healthcare, as well as monetary. |

| | The publishers of our Journal, Taylor & Francis, are running a programme of support for early career and inexperienced researchers. The Research Communication Lab is a free, year-long series of online sessions designed to build practical publishing knowledge among researchers. |
