Recent Report and Publications of interest

Their recent global report, The health of nations: Stronger health, stronger economies, advocates that scaling proven interventions could add nine healthy years to life and deliver $12.5 trillion in global economic gains by 2050. Nearly two-thirds of this impact would come from preventive interventions - today, most countries spend less than 2 percent of their health budgets on prevention.
In England, Directors of Public Health have a statutory duty to publish an independent Annual Public Health Report. These assess local health needs and make actionable recommendations for change. Reports are hosted locally by local authorities, and often published by the Association of Directors of Public Health ADPH.
Dr Beccy Cooper, Labour MP for Worthing West argues the case for a new public health act, building on that of 1875 but with a wider strategic lens which puts health in all policies. This cross sector approach focussing on prevention rather than treatment is very much in line with IHPE’s purpose and focus.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is leading a fresh campaign to raise awareness of safety issues with vapes, with resources for local authorities, community groups and the public.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued comprehensive guidelines on filovirus disease, including Ebola and Marburg disease

The Faculty of Sport and Exercise UK have launched the Moving Medicine for Everybody website, offering evidence-informed guidance to help people move more, in ways that work for them, particularly people living with long-term health conditions.

A recent WHO report, The digital choices shaping our children’s health, explores the challenges of the benefits of the digital era against the increasing public health issues it poses.

The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards celebrate organisations and individuals who are setting the highest standards in workplace safety and wellbeing.

Sponsored by NEBOSH, and with entrants from over 60 countries, they are a benchmark for excellence, recognising outstanding achievements and dedication to workplace safety across the globe.

A recent Health Foundation report, Healthy life expectancy trends in the UK: a watershed moment examines how healthy life expectancy in the UK has changed over the past decade, how it varies across local areas and how these trends compare with other high-income countries.

Consultation, recent and forthcoming events

Colleagues from across the public health system are invited to take part in the drafting phase of the UK Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework (PHSKF) review.

Draft competencies are grouped into three surveys, aligned to different areas of public health practice. They are open to anyone working in or contributing to public health and prevention. You can complete all three or focus on the survey(s) most relevant to your role or experience.

Deadline - Round 1 closes at the end of the day 16 July 2026.
