Important Update: PVG Scheme Requirements
for Scottish NHS Visits
Dear {{customFields.573887}},
We wanted to share an important update for any MIA Members visiting NHS sites in Scotland.
The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, managed by Disclosure Scotland, is becoming increasingly important for individuals accessing Scottish NHS Boards.
π What does this mean for you?
If your role involves visiting clinical areas within NHS Scotland, you may now be required to hold PVG Scheme membership (or be in the process of applying), depending on the nature of your work.
This is part of a wider move to ensure all individuals accessing healthcare environments meet consistent safeguarding standards.
π Key points:
- PVG is the Scottish equivalent of an Enhanced DBS check however Scottish NHS Boards will only accept PVG membership as these offer on-going checks over 5 years.
- It may be required for those working in regulated roles or accessing patient-facing environments
- Requirements may vary slightly between NHS Boards
β
What should you do?
- Review whether your role may require PVG membership here
- Speak with your employer if you are unsure
- Ensure your credentials are up to date before attending site
As always, MIA supports hospitals in ensuring individuals attending site are fit for purpose and compliant with local requirements.
Our MIA Platform will shortly be updated to ensure that PVG Membership is clearly displayed for NHS Boards. In the interim, we have a process in place to record PVG status directly against member accounts, ensuring this information is visible to Trusts and Health Boards where representatives are visiting. Please note that all MIA NHS Boards have already been notified of this upcoming platform update.
If you have any questions or need guidance, please donβt hesitate to get in touch with the team.
