Homelessness is an enduring issue. The number of people experiencing homelessness continues to grow worldwide, affecting children, adults, the elderly, families and communities across different groups and geographic areas - and the impacts can be devastating, especially for the most vulnerable in our societies.
A wide range of structural, interpersonal and individual factors can contribute to a person becoming homeless. Although there are a number of evidence-based approaches to help address the issue, homelessness still needs to be higher priority, with sustained political leadership and long term, cross sector strategies in place.
IHPE have long campaigned for better approaches to address homelessness, see our Position Statement and President’s Letters here and here. |

|
| | This recent Health Foundation report argues that health is our most precious asset. It suggests that restoring population health to 2014 levels, equivalent to an approximately 10 percentage point reduction in the share of adults with a long-term condition could add around 2% to UK GDP (£57bn) and deliver roughly £72bn in public-finance benefits. It strongly supports a prevention-first, health-in-all-policies approach. |
