Hi

Welcome to your weekly wellness tip.

Seems there's a lot of change going on for people, something in the air perhaps as well as the change in season. It's also a time where Summer is fading, everything you've been putting off is now coming to the fore and needs action, plus kids are back to school or heading off to Uni.

The transitions you may be experiencing can make you feel out of sorts with a sort of low grade anxiety - it's totally normal. Your brain craves comfort, it wasn't designed to make you happy it was designed to keep you safe! So any sort of change or discomfort feels like a 'threat' and can trigger a background fight or flight response.

You may feel more tired than usual, a bit flat and just not yourself and that's ok. Your brain is having to work overtime to make conscious decisions, establish new routines and process new environments. So this big surge in cognitive load really takes it out of you.

To navigate any change in life, it's important to stay present and in the moment, to stop your mind from snowballing into overwhelm and negative thought loops. Take it day by day and focus on the here and now.

Carve out 5 minutes here and there for yourself if it all becomes too much. Ground yourself with a mindful cup of coffee, five minutes of breath work, a walk round the block, a chat with a mate. Whatever feels familiar to you and whatever fills up your cup. That will support your your brain to stand down to allow rest and digest to kick back in.

If you've experienced kids going to Uni and have that empty nest feeling, you're not alone. I've cried a lot having dropped off my youngest and I'm out of sorts that's for sure. I'm focusing on time for me with a meditation practice each day for ten minutes, plenty of dog walks, talking to others in the same boat and ensuring my days are purposeful in my business.

You're not alone, you've got this.
