Hello
Welcome to your weekly wellness tip.
From many conversations with women these past few months, more of them are increasingly frustrated with the amount of belly fat they are gaining around their midriff. However much exercise or dieting they do, they just can't get rid of it.
It's just not as simple as it maybe once was to lose this. This may make sense when you know that a staggering 70% of women who are perimenopausal/postmenopausal list weight gain or specifically belly fat as one of their symptoms.
So why is this?
?♀️Menopause is associated with a redistribution of adipose (fat) tissue towards central adiposity (the midriff)
?♀️The liver and gall bladder adjust to menopause by changing in size and function which impacts fat regulation in these organs
?♀️Declining oestrogen stores cause changes to skeletal and cardiac muscle in women, which may then impact the ability of the mitochondria to metabolise (use up) fats for energy production
?♀️Fat cells become larger and expand as they start to make their own localised oestrogen hence the midriff expansion, they are now considered hormonally active
It may surprise you to know that menopause itself is not the enemy for women putting on weight! The body is naturally ageing and women have to focus on looking after their liver as a priority in this life stage.
There's some tips below that may be worth considering if you are one of these women. Weight loss is something we address on my Reclaim MEnopause Method 12 week program, a coaching program to educate and empower women to reclaim their body & mind with simple science backed lifestyle solutions.
If you would like to chat to me about how this program can support you, email me antonia@healthyhabitslife.co.uk and we can set up a chat. I will be honest about whether I feel this program is or is not right for you with no obligation.
As my husband and friends know, I'm always up for a chat! :)

A few tips on how to support liver health in midlife
|
|
This needs to be done by changing diet and understanding that the liver is the key to helping the body detoxify, therefore helping the body to store less fat.
✅ Try to lower saturated fat intake by swapping out saturated fats found in animal meat & dairy & replace with lean meats, fish, plant based foods (we are talking about moderation not elimination entirely) ✅ Increase the intake of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, cauliflower, bok choy, sprouts and chomp more celery ✅ Eat more citrus fruits or squeeze lemon or lime into warm water to have as a drink ✅ Add in a green juice twice a week like spinach, parsley, lemon & water ✅ Make a conscious decision to drink more water daily, easiest way is to fill up a water bottle and keep it visible throughout your day reminding you to drink more |

For a really simple way to control your portion size, try using a smaller plate. An incredibly effective technique! |
