Digital Transformation Bulletin

“Failing to transform would be an existential risk”

Barry O'Dwyer, Group CEO, Royal London

Your bulletin needs YOU 🫵🏼

Before I dive into this edition, I'd like to highlight that we're looking for contributors.

We're planning a new quick-fire Q&A featuring people at the heart of business and digital transformation.

So, if you or a colleague would like to talk about change in your industry, then please respond to this email.

Thanks.

Royal London's CEO on Digital Transformation

As part of PwC's CEO Survey, Royal London's Barry O'Dwyer talks about embracing transformation in a traditional business (article here).

O'Dwyer believes that successful transformation starts with a clear, understandable strategy. The CEO should be close to the action and particularly the data strategy, on which he has a strong interest.

For such a quick read, it's a wide-ranging interview. It covers everything from RL's acquisition of fintech Wealth Wizards, to how data enables its climate transition plan.

The role of tech in the future of energy

Whether you work in energy or not, I expect you'll find this article from KPMG's Women in Energy forum an interesting read.

Many of the talk points are sector agnostic and, as a stakeholder in the future of energy, it's an easy topic to get behind. The panel covered disruption, renewables, smart technology and (of course!) AI.

There's some interesting content more broadly at KPMG's Women in Energy landing page.

Speaking of AI...

I had a lighthearted moan about LinkedIn's application of AI recently. Evidently, their vision is a world of AI-written posts attracting AI-written comments!

So, reading about some more constructive use cases pleased me.

Matalan recently announced that it was using GenAI to enhance product marketing. Whilst Paul Adams at Travel Counsellors wrote about how AI is super-charging the company.

But one of the most compelling cases I've read is this article on AI in Wealth Management. It talks about a fundamental shift in how wealth managers at firms like JP Morgan and BlackRock operate.

The State of the IT Leader

It appears I'm not the only one getting flustered by AI's application... 😅

This in-depth report from Asana’s Work Innovation Lab covers a lot of ground.

It's packed with statistics including one that stood out: 87% of IT leaders say "keeping up with technology advances" is stressful.

Elsewhere... More reports!

1.  A great overview of challenges in the General and Speciality Insurance markets from the bright minds at Alpha. (Report here).

2.  And... a resource we use and thought we'd share, from Research and Markets. They frequently publish in-depth reports on Digital Transformation strategies.

The reports cost a few quid, but you can get a good overview from the exec summaries. Here are three of my favourite recent examples...
